Lynx Asset Management invites you to create and test a systematic trading algorithm at our full day Lynx Hackathon at our Stockholm headquarters!

At the Lynx Hackathon, you will work in teams to create a fully systematic trading strategy. Why systematic trading? Emotions are a part of what makes us human but can also result in irrational behavior. By trading with systematic algorithms, an investor can remove the emotion from their risk-taking decisions. In other words, systematic trading is a more methodological approach than discretionary trading since it follows a predefined set of rules.

At the event you will be given a time series based on real market futures data. Futures are exchange-traded, standardized derivative contracts with daily settlement, fixed maturities and uniform terms that obligate the purchase/sale of an asset at a predetermined price and date in the future. With this data you need to consider position and volatility targets, risk adjusted return and how to best use different technical indicators.

Lynx investment professionals will be at your disposal to answer questions and guide you through the process. We will also provide you with the tools to test your algorithms on the data set.

At the end of the event, your algorithm will be tested and evaluated in a virtual environment, allowing you to see how your idea would have worked in the real world. After the winning team has been announced (there will be a 1st and a 2nd place price!), there will be dinner and the opportunity to mingle at the office!

Food, beverages and snacks will be served throughout the day.

How to apply

We welcome individual and team (3 to 4 people) applications. However, since Lynx works across disciplinary fields, teams must be able to cover the range of mathematics/statistics, programming and finance/economics to a reasonable degree. We highly encourage diverse teams in terms of gender, background and experience in order to optimize performance.

When applying as an individual, you will be paired with participants that have complementary skills to form interesting and balanced teams.

Attach/upload your CV, grades and a 200-word letter as to why you should participate in the hackathon. Save the different documents together in one pdf and name it “[Name]_[Surname]_Hackathon2025”.

>>>If you apply as a team:
Attach/upload all of your CVs, grades and one maximum 250-word letter as to why you as a team should participate in the hackathon. Save the different documents together in one pdf and name it “[Team name]_Hackathon2025”.

For teams, please write ”team” as first name and your team name as last name when applying. In other words, you need to create a team name.

The application deadline is 12th February 2025.

After you’ve applied you will receive an answer on 21st February 2025. If you or your team get a spot in the hackathon, you will also receive a small sample of training data and more specific event information. If you applied on your own, the names and contact information to your team members will also be sent.

For participants travelling from outside of Stockholm: we reimburse train tickets and if necessary one hotel night. Details will be arranged after the application.
